How it works

  1. Drop your HEIC photos

Drag your .heic or .heif files into the box, tap to browse, or paste them. Add as many as you want.

  2. Conversion happens on your device

Each photo is decoded locally in your browser and saved as a lossless PNG. Nothing is sent to a server.

  3. Download your PNG files

Save each converted photo, upright and pixel-perfect, ready for editing, design work, or archiving.

Why use this tool

  • Lossless output — PNG keeps every pixel of the original photo
  • Unlimited batch conversion — no 2-file or 5-file free limit like server-based tools
  • Portrait and landscape orientation corrected automatically
  • No account, no watermark, no waiting queue

About the HEIC format

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Coding) is the photo format iPhones have used by default since iOS 11. It stores photos in about half the space of a JPG, but support outside Apple's ecosystem is still patchy: many Windows programs, image editors, and web platforms cannot open it, or open it only with a paid codec. Converting to PNG decodes the photo once and stores the result in a format every editor on the planet can read, without losing a single pixel in the process.

About the PNG format

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless format: the converted file contains exactly the pixels of your photo, with no compression artifacts. That makes PNG the right choice for editing, graphics work, screenshots, and any image you plan to process again later. The honest trade-off is size: a PNG photo is often five to ten times heavier than the same photo as a JPG. If you mainly want to share or upload the photo, our HEIC to JPG converter is usually the better pick; if you want to edit it, choose PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Is HEIC to PNG really lossless?

Yes, for the picture itself. Decoding a HEIC photo and saving the result as PNG preserves every pixel exactly — PNG compression never discards image data, unlike JPG. (Metadata such as the camera info is not the picture, and basic file info may differ.)

Why are the PNG files so much bigger than the originals?

HEIC is a highly efficient modern format, and PNG trades size for perfect fidelity: it stores far more data per photo. A 3 MB HEIC photo commonly becomes a 15–30 MB PNG. That is normal and expected — if file size matters more than pixel-perfection, convert to JPG instead.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

Never. The converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos are decoded and saved on your own device; nothing is transmitted, stored, or seen by us.

Should I choose PNG or JPG for my iPhone photos?

Choose PNG when you plan to edit the photo, use it in design work, or archive the best possible copy. Choose JPG when you plan to share it, email it, or upload it somewhere — the files are much smaller and open in even more places.
