About the HEIC format
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Coding) is the photo format iPhones have used by default since iOS 11. It takes up about half the space of a JPG at the same quality, but many Windows PCs, older programs, and web forms still cannot open it. Renaming a file from .heic to .jpg does not convert it — the picture data inside stays HEIC, which is why a renamed photo still fails on strict websites. A real conversion decodes the HEIC picture and re-encodes it as JPEG, which is what this tool does.
About the JPG format
JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported photo format in the world: every computer, phone, printer, and website accepts it. Converted files keep their original dimensions and are saved at high quality (92%), so the JPG looks the same as the HEIC original while opening everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Can I just rename .heic to .jpg instead of converting?
No. Renaming changes the file name, not the picture inside — the data stays encoded as HEIC. It sometimes seems to work because your own phone or computer already knows how to read HEIC, but the file will still fail wherever HEIC is not supported, like many web forms. This tool performs a real conversion.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
Never. The converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos are decoded and saved on your own device; nothing is transmitted, stored, or seen by us.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes. Add as many HEIC files as you like — a whole album if you want — and convert them in one batch. There is no free-plan file limit because the work happens on your device, not on our servers.
Will my portrait photos come out sideways?
No. iPhones store portrait photos sideways with a rotation note inside the file; many converters ignore that note. Ours applies it during decoding, so your photos come out upright.
